Aging: 18 months

Winemaking Notes:

This Pinot Noir comes from a vineyard off of Westside Road in the Russian River Valley.  Most years, morning fog in the summers allows for great hang time and slow maturation of the berries.  This leads to balance in the grapes and in turn, in the wine.

In 2011, we had a dry winter followed by a very wet spring and a cooler than average summer.  We picked these grapes toward the end of September and fermented them in an open top tank.  After an extended cold soak of 5 days, we performed twice daily punchdowns by hand throughout fermentation.  The wine was fermented for 12 days and then pressed and barreled down into all neutral French oak barrels.  The wine was allowed to age surlies for a period of 18 months.

Tasting Notes:

Our 2011 Pinot Noir is incredibly aromatic, with bright cherry, cola and spices wafting from your glass.  On the palate, the delicate fruitiness is showcased first on the front palate, followed by gentle tannins and a great finish with good acidity.

2013 Pinot Noir | Sonoma Mountain

Harvest Date: October 2, 2013

Harvest pH: 3.61

Harvest TA: 6.1 g/L

Alcohol: 13.8%

Composition: 100% Pinot Noir

Aging: 11 months

Barrels: 100% neutral French Oak

Brix at Harvest: 25.5

Winemaking Notes:

2013 was another ideal vintage in Sonoma County.  The weather was very even from budbreak through picking, with temperatures rarely above 90 degrees.  We picked these grapes by hand in early October, after they got a nice, long hang time on the vine.  They were destemmed and left whole-berry in tank.  The must was cold-soaked for 3 days before being fermented to dryness.  The grapes were then gently pressed and put down into neutral French oak barrels, where the wine was left on the lees and stirred every month until kegging.

Tasting Notes:

This 2013 Pinot Noir starts out with bright cherry, cola and hints of vanilla and currants.  On the palate, the bright clean fruit notes continue with more cherry and deep raspberry flavors.  The fruit is followed by nutmeg and clove spices and rounded out with subtle, soft tannins and a bright acidity on the finish.

2014 Pinot Noir | Carneros

Harvest Date: October 8, 2014

Harvest pH: 3.70

Harvest TA: 6.7 g/L

Alcohol: 14.8%

Composition: 100% Pinot Noir

Brix at Harvest: 25.5

Winemaking Notes:

2014 was a dry, but excellent vintage.  The weather was warm, and also one of the driest years on record.  Some late winter/early spring rains really helped the vines.  This Pinot Noir came from a pristine vineyard nestled right in the epicenter of the cooler climate Sonoma-Carneros region.  After hand-picking, the grapes were gently destemmed but left whole berry for a gentle extraction and maceration.  After a 5 day cold soak, fermentation started and continued for about 8 days.  The wine was then gently pressed and the press fraction was kept separate.  The wine was then aged in a mix of new and neutral French Oak barrels.

Tasting Notes:

Our 2014 Carneros Pinot Noir starts out with warm aromas of cinnamon and clove with blackberry and a deep earthiness layered around it.  Fruit abounds on the front palate with full, rich blackberry jam notes and chalky but smooth tannins on the finish.  This wine is balanced and bright.
