2014 was a dry, but excellent vintage. The weather was warm, and also one of the driest years on record. Some late winter/early spring rains really helped the vines. Diligence in farming practices helped create a small crop of highly flavored Zinfandel for this Rosé. We picked three blocks of over 80 year old Zinfandel, gently destemmed and left most berries whole and put into an open-top tank. After 4 hours, we saignéed juice from each tank to make this Rosé. It was barrel fermented in neutral oak barrels and was not put through malolactic fermentation.
The beautiful bright strawberry fruit and amazing color are the first two things that stand out about this wine. The nose is full of strawberry with hints of lemon zest and some subtle blackberry jam notes. On the palate is another full layer of fruit, followed by a bright, crisp acidity and a dry, refreshing finish.
